The mission statement of Vilnius University Kaunas Faculty of Humanities is formed taking into account both inner and outer environments which directly influence various activities at the faculty, academic and pedagogic potential, material-technical conditions, all of which are important for reaching strategic goals.
The mission statement of VU Kaunas Faculty of Humanities:
- To be a faculty of Vilnius University, which aims at maintaining the leading status among other universities and educational institutions in Lithuania, preparing highly qualified specialists who have Bachelor, Master or Doctor’s degree; to provide different services such as training programmes, refreshes courses, different types of language courses; to encourage progress in morale, social life and technologies within and outside Lithuania;
- To preserve the unity of education and studies; to integrate the results of scientific research into the course of studies and to involve students into the process of research;
- To analyse and consider students’ needs; to train students’ skills concerning studying, working, leadership, intellectual activities, all of which would enable them to become financially independent and mobile;
- To provide classical university education, based on the synthesis of general and special subjects studied at university; the variety of subjects enables post-graduate students to meet different personal needs, reflects recent trends and demands of the global labour market, in order to compete in the European market;
- To plan scientific, academic and general activities in accordance with the restructuring of Lthuanian economics, the requirements and demands of the development of social infrastructure, culture and free market; the changes in politics, social and cultural life, determined by Lithuania’s decision to join the European and global communities;
- To emphasise the importance of studies and a long-term research in such fields as Humanities, Social Sciences and Informatics, to promote the necessity of relations among these branches of science and interdisciplinary studies, which would facilitate the integration of Lithuanian study programmes into the educational system of Western Europe;
- To encourage the formation of a knowledgable and information-driven society in Lithuania by organizing different types of studies (day-time, evening, extramural and professional), which would enable people of different age groups to start or continue studies at university;
- To develop international relations and initiate the setting-up of various international projects which would encourage the implementation of new ideas, knowledge and methodologies, enable students and lecturers to gain international practice, train skills in international cooperation and encourage the integration of Lithuania into the global community;
- To maintain close relations with secondary schools, to provide pedagogic, academic and other services for teachers and schoolchildren, to write adapted text-books and other material for teaching, to organize seminars, lectures, courses for schoolchildren;
- To use the most effective evaluation systems in order to enable students to compete in the market, become leaders and team-players;
- To be an educational institution focused on various innovations, the quality of studies, the preparation of professionals of a new generation who would be able to implement the most perspective ideas and professional expertise, who would also be guided by standards of democracy and high morale;
- To be open to the society by providing information and carrying out scientific research; to contribute to the protection of the architectural heritage of Kaunas’ Old Town and the progress and welfare of Vilnius University, Lithuania and the world.
