Collaborative initiatives with Ukraine

A group of Vilnius University Kaunas Faculty of Humanities scientists supervised by Prof. Dr. Virginija Jurėnienė implement an international project 7FP “Pro-ecological Workplace Restructuring” (PRORES). In the end of last year, the Faculty had a visit from the Ukrainian coordinator of this project and the Science prorector at the Kiev National University of Food Technologies (NUFT) Prof. (HP) Dr. Tatiana Mostenska. A meeting with the Faculty’s Dean Kęstutis Driaunys resulted in collaboration in two directions, i.e. to create a shared international Economics and Management study programme and start short-term student exchange.

As the preparation works for the development of the shared study programme are still taking place, student exchange between Vilnius University in Kaunas and Kiev National University of Food Technologies have already started. Our Faculty welcomed the first delegation of 12 people from NUFT on February 5-14, 2014, i.e. 10 students and 2 professors. The following Vilnius University Kaunas Faculty of Humanities’ lecturers delivered lectures for the students from Ukraine: Dr. D. Vengalienė, Assoc. Prof. Dr. S. Masteika, Prof. Dr. L. Ulvydienė, Prof. Dr. V. Jurėnienė, Assoc. Prof. Dr. A. Urbonienė, Assoc. Prof. Dr. D. Pilinkus, Assoc. Prof. Dr. E. Freitakas, Assoc. Prof. Dr. S. Juzelėnienė.

Our guests were offered an intensive cultural programme in Kaunas and Vilnius during which the guests were introduced to the Lithuanian culture, history and especially to the Vilnius University and Kaunas Faculty of Humanities. The cultural programme was initiated and organised by the PRORES group: Prof. Dr. V. Jurėnienė, I. Griesienė (PhD), M. Akulavičius (PhD), M. Dilys (PhD). The students from Kiev, together with the administrator of the Department of Philosophy and Cultural studies R. Poškuvienė, visited the “Stumbras” factory.

Cultural exchange zone in the Incubator for Creation

One afternoon, the Incubator for Creation became a cultural exchange centre where two countries “met”, i.e. Lithuania and Ukraine. Ukraine was represented by the students from the Kiev National University of Food Technologies, whereas Lithuania was represented by the Vilnius University Kaunas Faculty of Humanities 3rd year students of Cultural Management.

The representatives of both nations presented the peculiarities of their countries with the emphasis on cultural similarity and difference. The participants were not surprised by the fact that Lithuania is identified basketball, while Ukraine – with football; however, Ukrainian songs performed live was a pleasant surprise to the majority. The exceptional performance by the Ukrainians was the Lithuanian national anthem.

The Ukrainian guests were especially impressed by the Lithuanian folk game “Jurgeli, meistreli” that they gladly played together with their Lithuanian colleagues. With song and dance, the interaction passed in what seemed like seconds. After the event, people continued communication in the Incubator for Creation with a cup of tea, shared their thoughts, discussed about the differences and similarities between nations, about studies and leisure time.

The representatives of Ukraine expressed their gratitude for excellent communication, organisation of the visit and initiative of this cultural exchange project to Prof. Dr. V. Jurėnienė (Department of Philosophy and Cultural Studies) and gave her a present, i.e. a CD with Ukrainian songs so that they could sound in the Incubator for Creation in the future…

On February 23, 2013, a delegation of students from Vilnius University Kaunas Faculty of Humanities led by the head of the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Studies Assoc. Prof. Dr. Donatas Pilinkus are going to Kiev where they will work, study, develop the project and participate in the cultural programme at the Kiev National University of Food Technologies (NUFT).

To conclude, NUFT have sent a letter to Prof. Dr. Jurėnienė – the organiser of NUFT representatives’ visit to Vilnius University Kaunas Faculty of Humanities:
