About the guest

Dr. Dmytro Iarovyi is a Non-resident Fellow at the Institute for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies (IERES) at George Washington University, is a scholar in the field of communication and political psychology. He is PhD in Political Psychology (Institute of Social and Political Psychology, Ukraine), did his MSc in International Administration and Global Governance at Goteborg University (Sweden), and MA in International Information at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Ukraine).

Dr. Dmytro Iarovyi is now doing his second PhD in communication and information, along with other research, at Vytautas Magnus University, and he's a part-time lecturer at Kyiv School of Economics (Ukraine), where he used to work during 2017-2022.

Outside the academic realm, Dr Dmytro Iarovyi is a part-time GR consultant at British-Ukrainian law company "Hillmont Partners", and previously worked at the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, heading the unit of international communications and analytics. He is an expert on the VoxUkraine project “Index for Monitoring Reforms” and a Member of the Civil Service HR Management Council at the National Agency of Civil Service of Ukraine. 

Social media has long been an integral part of modern life, a source of information, but, unfortunately, sometimes not only valuable information. At the seminar, we will have a look at social media as a discursive platform, discuss the distinguishing features of communication in that field, how group polarization is taking place, and have a look at the types of political communication - such as propaganda, disinformation, misinformation, or else.
