About the speaker

Dr. Darja Solodovnikova is an associate professor at the Faculty of Computing of the University of Latvia. Darja Solodovnikova has a broad research experience in topics related to data warehousing and knowledge discovery. She obtained her PhD in computer science in 2011 from the Faculty of Computing of the University of Latvia. During the doctoral studies Darja Solodovnikova developed a solution to handle data warehouse evolution in a relational database environment that incorporated schema multi-versioning methods. During and after her doctoral studies, Darja participated in the implementation of 6 research projects co-financed by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and European Social Fund (ESF), including a post-doctoral project devoted to evolution of a data warehouse over Big Data. Darja Solodovnikova is a author/co-author of more than 30 research papers on various topics related to data warehousing, Big Data evolution, information system development.

The presentation covers topics related to data warehousing and evolution of data warehouse technologies as well as approaches to solving problems of data and structure evolution in data warehouses. First, a data warehouse is defined, its purpose, structure and usage patterns are discussed. Then, data warehouse evolution problems are discussed in the context of traditional data warehouse implementation. After that, the presentation will concentrate on the development of data warehousing and decision support systems in the big data era. Finally, the data warehousing solution over Big Data capable of adapting to evolving analysis needs and to changes in the underlying data sources will be presented.
