VU KNF 2025 Freshmen Camp: New Friends for a New Start

VU SA KnF stovykla 2025 08This year, VU SR KnF invited first-year students to the Wild West-themed camp for their introduction to student life. It seems that memories of the "First Rodeo" will warm the hearts of those who did not miss the opportunity to prepare themselves before entering the auditoriums of the Kaunas Faculty. Curators, lecturers, and numerous new challenges awaited them at the camp.

“It is great to meet new colleagues and hear their expectations and needs firsthand. The tradition continued by VU SR KnF reminds us of a fundamental principle: those who are more curious, more active, able to invest their time wisely, establish connections, and seek opportunities for self-realisation will gain an advantage at university (and later in life). I believe that those who participated in the camp will feel it on September 1st,” says the Dean of VU KnF Giedrius Romeika.

He does not doubt that interacting with students from other study programs, especially with those who are older, will help the first-year students settle in at the University more quickly and reveal their potential. The Dean considers the events of the integration week to be particularly important, as they can help students to quickly understand the specifics of university life, find like-minded people, and discover opportunities to pursue their hobbies and abilities.

“The Freshmen Camp helped me break the ice and get to know several future classmates and students from other study programmes. I particularly remember sitting by the bonfire after the traditional freshmen baptism and the morning exercises with dances, which helped me wake up. During the camp, we heard a lot of important information that will come in handy. I definitely do not regret my decision to come here,” says Emilis Skaržinskas, a first-year student of the Information Systems and Cyber Security study programme.

“I am both surprised and amazed. In three days, I lived twenty lives, met wonderful people, participated in various events and dances, and most importantly, in the baptism I will never forget. VU SR KnF and the curators put in a lot of effort, which was evident. Everyone was ready to help and answer all sorts of questions. Everything was well thought out, and the mood remained excellent. The camp introduced participants to Vilnius University and its activities, inspiring them to pursue their goals. I feel very encouraged and comforted about the anxiety that probably all first-year students feel. I think I am now better prepared for life at VU, and I will feel much more confident when I go to my first lecture,” says Mintarė Stumburytė, a first-year student of the Audiovisual Translation study programme.

“This is an unforgettable event and a unique opportunity to establish connections. There was enough time to get to know everyone and assure them they can trust the Students’ Representation in this new stage of their lives. I returned home with wonderful experiences and memories. It was nice to see how quickly the upcoming first-year students adapted to their new environment, were not afraid of the tasks we set for them, were curious during lectures, and willingly communicated with each other. It is exciting to see so many bright people who will join our community,” says Rūta Kubiliūtė, the VU SR KnF Coordinator of Organisational Activities.

“This camp was a real challenge, but also a delightful adventure. We wanted to create an atmosphere where first-year students would feel comfortable, could easily get to know each other, and get a taste of student life. The most enjoyable part was observing how the ice broke after the first games and team tasks: initially hesitant, later all faces radiated laughter and energy. Of course, there were quite a few organisational details that we had to take care of. Still, all the work paid off when we saw people leaving with smiles on their faces, new friends, and experiences that I believe will stay with them for a long time to come,” rejoices Evelina Martinkutė, Interim Chairwoman of the VU SR KnF.

“Two years ago, I was a freshman myself, and this year I had the opportunity to plan the camp and share my experience. We worked extensively with the curatorial team to organise various activities and events. We had the opportunity to interact with each first-year student individually and provide personalised attention. I am glad that the camp reflected the community spirit of our Faculty, its cosy atmosphere, and sincere desire to welcome new members into our circle. I believe that this beginning is only the first step in a wonderful journey for first-year students at our Faculty,” says Raminta Pocepavičiūtė, the VU SR KnF Coordinator of Integration Process.
