Professor Vladas Gronskas

1940-2010
Professor Vladas Gronskas was a long-standing member of the community of Vilnius University Evening Faculty (now Kaunas Faculty) (from 1965 till his retirement). The research interest of this eminent figure covered a wide range of issues in Economic Theory, in particular the issues of interaction between the supply of goods to the market and the production of goods for family consumption under the conditions of mixed economy.
The Professor was determined to follow his chosen scientific path; in 1973, he defended his doctoral thesis and in 1985-habilitation thesis. During the time, Gronskas was awarded the tittle of Associate Professor and Professor. From 1983 to 1993, he held the position of the Head of the Department of Political Economy, supervised doctoral dissertations of PhD students, participated in dissertation defences as a member of the board or as opponent, and gave lectures. Moreover, it was Kaunas Faculty, where he was the first lecturer in Lithuania to give lectures on Economic Theory (in particular, Microeconomic). The theories taught were engaging and useful not only for the student but also for lecturers in the field of Economy and PhD students form other universities in Kaunas.
Gronskas was also a member of the editorial board of the scientific journal Engineering Economic (Ižinerinė ekonomika), published nine monographs: The Mechanism of the Economic Self-Accounting (Ūkiskaitos mechanizmas), 1981; Structure of Societal Reproduction (Visuomenės reprodukcijos struktūra), 1983; Business Economy (Verslo Ekonomika), 1993; Business, Pseudo-business, Anti-business (Verslas, pseudoverslas, antiverslas), 1995; Risks of Commercial Entrepreneurship (Prekinės verslininkystės rizika) , 1997; Commercial Entrepreneurship and Natural Economic Activities (Prekinė verslininkystė ir natūrinė ūkinė veikla), 2001; and Economic Analysis (Ekonominė analizė), 2005. The Professor also published two educational books The Fundamentals of the History of Economic Thought (Ekonominės minties istorijos pagrindai), 2007 and Fragments of the History of Economic Thought (Ekonominės minties istorijos fragmentai), 2011, as well as a number of others teaching tools and over 100 academic articles.
