Telia Cyber Battle of Nordic-Baltics 2024 invites to take part in the biggest ethical hacking event

2024.03.20 cyber battle tinklapisDo you have an interest in the cyber security but you haven’t yet had a chance to pursue it? Or, have you ever considered a career in the cyber security but you don’t know where to begin? Or, you are already feeling quite comfortable in the cyber field and would like to test your skills and compete with others? Here is your chance! You are invited you to take part in the biggest ethical hacking event in our region Telia Cyber Battle of Nordic-Baltics 2024!

Who is it for?

The event is aimed at young people who are interested in the cyber world but have no previous exposure or experience in the field. Youngsters from all Nordic-Baltic countries are WELCOME to take part in this year's event. Requirements for participants:

  • age of 15-24;
  • interest to learn cyber in a fun and practical way;
  • no prior experiences needed.

Event Details?

  • Online bootcamps March 23-24 or April 6-7 from 11.00-17.00 (EET) REGISTER HERE! (additional information on www.ctftech.com).
  • Bootcamps are in English and require registration. Registration deadline for bootcamps is March 20 (if you participate March 23-24) and April 4 (if you participate April 6-7). Act now because places are limited!
  • April 19, after the bootcamps there will be a pre-competition where the best teams will be selected. You can take part in the bootcamps as a single participant but in order to participate in a pre-competition you must form a team of 3-5 members.
  • The teams who already competed in the Telia Cyber Battle of Nordic-Baltics 2023 can’t participate in the final of 2024 with the same composition (except for the online league participation). There have to be at least 3 new members.
  • The best team from each Nordic-Baltic country will be invited to the Telia Cyber Battle of Nordic-Baltics 2024 final on November 1, in Tartu, Estonia.
  • In addition, five best “girls only” teams will be selected who will participate in the final event.

Why?

  • In the course of the bootcamps the cybersecurity experts will provide you with the basic knowledge and skills to work in the cyber world using a fun learning environment.
  • You will acquire basic knowledge on the following topics: Linux Basics, Port Scanning, DNS (Name Server) and Web Server Listing, Brute-Forcing, Metasploit, Cyber Security and Cyber Wisdom, Steganography, Cryptography, Web Vulnerabilities, Security Vulnerabilities.
  • Once you have participated in all the required bootcamps you will receive a certificateYou will be included in the Discord channel together with other young ethical hackers and gain experiences and contacts which could be beneficial in your future career.
  • And last, but not least - you will gain an insight into the minds of hackers.

Challenge to the students of Information Systems and Cyber Security

1On 12 March 2024 at 10.15 a.m. (Auditorium 3, Building 1, Muitinės Str. 8), the students of the study programme Information Systems and Cyber Security of all courses are invited to take part in an open lecture where the representatives of the company Oxylabs will invite the students to join their project Project4Beta  and will announce the challenge competition by Honeygain.

The challenge will involve testing the security of the web application. Students will analyse, identify and document potential vulnerabilities and report them to Honeygain. The students who will submit successful assessments will be awarded with prizes. And the main prize will be an offer of a paid internship placement.

The event is organized by Assoc. Prof. Dr Kęstutis Driaunys, the Institute of Social Sciences and Applied Informatics.

Untitled design 10On 26 January, a graduation ceremony of Vilnius University, Kaunas Faculty took place at the Historical Presidential Palace of the Republic of Lithuania in Kaunas (Vilniaus str. 33).

The graduates were greeted and awarded their diplomas by Prof. Dr Vilmantė Pakalniškienė, the Vice-Rector of Organisation Development and Community Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr Giedrius Romeika, the Dean of the Kaunas Faculty, and the Director of the Institute of Social Sciences and Applied Informatics Assist. Prof. Dr Indrė Ščiukauskė.

Congratulations were extended by the Chair of the Bachelor programme Information Systems and Cyber Security (taught in Lithuanian), Assoc. Prof. Dr Vytautas Rudžionis, the Chair of the Bachelor programme Information Systems and Cyber Security (taught in in English), Assoc. Sharing research methods in Applied Linguistics: the Arqus student co-designed project “AL4ALL”

AL4ALL tinklalapio naujienomsFrom November to December 2023, the Arqus project “AL4ALL: Applied Linguistics for ALL” organised 12 online seminars on current research methods in Applied Linguistics. 12 presenters took part in the seminar series and presented their research: 10 Ph.D. students and young researchers from various universities of the Arqus Alliance: Granada (Spain), Graz (Austria), Leipzig (Germany), Maynooth (Ireland), Minho (Portugal), Vilnius (Lithuania). Additionally, 2 PhD students from the University of Zaragoza (Spain) and the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (Germany) presented their studies.

Lithuanian Language and Culture Courses: a good start to motivate further learning

lietuviu kalbos kursas 2024The intensive Lithuanian language course for beginners (A1 level) at Vilnius University Kaunas Faculty was held on 4 January-2 February. The course included cultural lectures, tours, visits to museums, parties and lots of discoveries with students from different countries learning together.

"This winter, the course welcomed 21 participants from different countries: Kazakhstan, Sakartvelo, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine and even Uruguay. Three participants from Uruguay and Hungary were of Lithuanian origin," says Rita Baranauskienė, Associate Professor at the Institute of Languages, Literature and Translation Studies, who is the head of the project. According to her, all the participants of the course were happy not only to learn Lithuanian, but also to get acquainted with the Lithuanian culture.
